X or Y Does it Matter on the Bench? with Judge Connie Mocumie
Judge Connie Mocumie doesn’t pull punches. She is known for fighting “this man thing” of “guys clubbing together” and taking on the issue gender transformation within the JSC. Judge Mocumie sits on to the Supreme Court of Appeal, and has experience as a magistrate, High Court judge and public prosecutor.
CLS is hosting Judge Mocumie as part of Women’s Month. On 8 August she will talk about her experiences in the legal profession in South Africa and in particular, as a female judge. She will discuss how socialisation on gender is brought into the legal profession and how gender impacts on legal careers and other issues on the field.
